she's green is a dream pop/shoegaze band based in minneapolis, minnesota, formed in 2022. currently, it consists of zofia smith, liam armstrong, raines lucas, teddy nordvold, and kevin seebeck.

their sound is super atmospheric and dreamy. i'd say they're quite reminiscent of 90's dream pop and shoegaze bands too - cocteau twins, my bloody valentine, and slowdive in particular.

below's an extract from an article that briefly details the reasoning behind the band's name!

The name she’s green traces back to something elemental. “It isn’t a crazy story – we were just throwing out names, and nature is something we all relate to”, Smith says. Long before they were a band, they were friends taking hikes, spending hours outside, orbiting the quiet landscapes that would later shape their sound.

Over time, the name rooted itself more deeply. “As time has gone on, there’s just been attached more and more meaning to the name”, Smith explains. What started as instinct began to feel intentional. “It feels like it’s this expression of the matriarchal energy of nature”, Armstrong adds.

i love how nature is a motif for this band. (^▽^) ✿ꜝ

i discovered them back in 2023 when their single, smile again, was included in my 'discover weekly' playlist. admittedly, i wasn't that interested at first. this is gonna sound harsh, but i just thought they were another modern shoegaze band that were derivative of bigger names in the scene. despite my first impressions, i found myself coming back to the song again and again, so i decided to explore their discography further. thank fuck i did. they only had 3 singles and a demo out at the time, but trust and believe i played the hell out of them... to put it as simply as possible, i love this band with my entire being. their music's been a source of comfort and familiarity for years now, and i'm positive it'll continue to be for many more.

as of writing this, 24/03/26, their debut album is yet to be released. i'm so excited to hear it whenever it comes out and to hear how they experiment with their sound. i think that's why i love she's green and the shoegaze genre so much in general - hearing how bands experiment and play with the genre conventions is fun, especially when it's inovative.
